Laurence Monnoyer-Smith holds a doctorate and a DEA in Information and Communication Sciences, as well as an HDR (certification as a research director). She worked as a senior lecturer for eight years, and then as a university professor from 2008 to 2013. Her research focuses primarily on electronic democracy and the new forms of citizenship it entails. In 2013, she became vice-president of the Commission Nationale du Débat Public. On May 22, 2015, she was appointed to the Conseil des ministres, as inter-ministerial delegate and general commissioner for sustainable development.
