Laurence Bherer is a professor in the political science department of the Université de Montréal. She specializes in urban policies, and her research focuses on public participation and local democracy. With M. Gauthier and L. Simard, she recently published the book, “The Professionalization of public participation.” Her latest articles cover a variety of topics: “The promise for democratic deepening: the effects of participatory processes in the interaction between civil society and local governments,” with J.L. Fernández-Martínez et al.; and “Faire de la politique soi-même : le cas des mobilisations contre les gaz de schiste au Québec,” with P. Dufour and C. Rothmayr.
